I was looking on ebay and they still make that chewing gum in the U.S.

Thanks for posting this. I would've been about 11 or 12 when these were on originally so pretty nostalgic.

Update - that 12th January 1979 showing of 'Seven Golden Men' was on Granada. I wonder if this might actually have been recorded in that region?

you notice how the male voices that narrates a lot these ads aronnd this time are so similar. Middle aged softly spoken male voices. not like that now.

Cool it's like going back in time :-) Even if this was before my time

Or perhaps the search engine only picks up another region's showing and doesn't recognise the Thames showing ... that can happen, and I'm having to work only on what the search engine tells me, not currently having the money to actually subscribe to the archive itself.

Given the date, though, I'm wondering whether perhaps technicians walked out and the film was shown 24 hours later? That would involve some Thames/LWT complications, of course, but I think it's possible.

'Incantations' was released in late 1978, but Davidson's show didn't start until 11th January 1979, so this is clearly from early 1979. It might be his first show but, infuriatingly, the Guardian archive suggests a showing of 'Seven Golden Men' on ... Friday 12th January!
The Freshen-Up ad is voiced by Tom Browne, ultra-smooth Radio 1 chart presenter of the 70s.
What exactly is "stuckup" about hating Jim Davidson? There's nothing "stuckup" about hating all racist bigots, whatever their background.
