The Herff College of Engineering was named after a Ford car dealer in Memphis that made a large donation in about 1970 to build a building for the college's engineering department, which actually started in 1964. I learned this from now retired EE professor Dr. Charles Bray, who taught there from 1969 to 2010. I went there from 1983 to 1988, and taught there during the 1989/1990 school year.
