What do you tell people?

This video is for the post op gastric bypass patient from a preop. I wanted to know how you disclose your procedure or if you disclose this information.

I am not telling anyone except one friend. In my mind it is no one's decision or business but my own. I dont want to hear negative feedback. I figure, I'll tell everyone I'm on a medically supervised diet before the surgery(truth). If anyone asks me how much I've lost, I'll say 10-15 pounds...even a year from now when I've lost 100! My surgery won't be until before Xmas. I hope to recover over the holidays so no one will notice and I won't have to be out of work for 2 weeks.

Good luck to you! I wish now I did not tell my mother in law. She is causing me so much grief right now it is not funny. I don't understand people sometimes.

Hi Bratlee- Just starting to watch your videos- Did you have the DS? I have mine schedules for Nov 3rd and I feel the same way about telling people. Only a few people know, plus my family and husband. I feel like it is no ones business but I am already lieing to some people I am close to.I am very busy with my kids school and will not be at certain events this year- I am lieing and saying I am going out of town but really I will be at home recouping. Thanks for the videos!

I struggled with the lying, too. I told ppl I was going in to have my appendix and gall bladder removed. I was but that was not the whole truth. I think it is better to give as little information as possible. Why not say I am going to stay home and relax for two weeks? You WILL be home relaxing and recouping. I did have the DS. Where are you having your ds?

I'm on an emotional roller coaster too.I have been open about it with most at work and with friends. I know people are commenting because rumors have come back but I just don't care.What people think isn't a concern to me regarding this but I know it is to many.I do hear what you are saying though. I wouldn't announce cancer or yeast infection (LOL..cute) but I guess I've always been honest & open about my weight struggles so I'm pretty open with this.Their responses are across the board.

It is funny - the closer I am to surgery, the more open I am. I guess it is KNOWING they can not talk me out of surgery now. I am excited. Good luck to you.

um.. well the surgery is dangerous and doesn't often work. So you STILL need to make a total lifestyle change, even afterwards. Because a stomach can stretch, of course. But good luck to you. I hope it all goes well.

And if you wanted to keep this information private, it might not have been a good idea to tell the internet. The internet has a way of spreading secrets around.... :D

I don't kow where your husband stands on all of it, but don't you think he could tell his mom nicely to back off on the subject? It would be a loving and husbandly thing to do. Hope it works out.
