Tombstone Junction Railroad - Southern Railway PS-4 Whistle - RARE VIDEO

Tombstone Junction was an amusement park which operated right next door to Cumberland Falls State Park in McCreary County Kentucky from the 1960's until 1991 when a series of fires leveled the park.

The park signature attraction was Ole' 77 a standard gauge steam train ride that took visitors on a 2 1/2 mile journey through the Kentucky woods where the train would be robbed every trip.

Here Ole' 77 departs the station with a bit of wheelslip trying to start up on the super sharp curve that was just outside the depot. The locomotive is Union Railroad #77 which today is under restoration at the Big South Fork Scenic Railroad in Stearns, KY.

The deep toned whistle is off a Southern Railway PS-4.

Interesting , the only "Tombstone Junction" I've ever heard of was the one that became "Dollywood" in Pigeon Forge , Tennessee even though I've been through Stearns KY many times I've never heard of a "Tombstone Junction" amusement park there .

@Highpoint211 Tombstone Junction was actually located on U.S. 90 just yards up the road from where you enter Cumberland Falls State Park. The locomotive under restoration at the Big South Fork Scenic Railroad to steam at Stearns is the engine shown in this video. If you ask any of the operating staff at BSFSRY they can tell you about the park.

This is the departure of the same trip that the earlier clip shows the engine pulling the grade.  My fireman was Donnie Vanover. The whistle is off of a Southern PS4 passenger locomotive.

@whjco Hi Bill. Didn't know you had a subscription on here too. Thanks for the info updated, I've changed the video info accordingly. I can't quite remember where I was told 77 had an L&N whistle on it. Guess they were wrong.

@boilerwash1 Actually I made a mistake the park that became "Dollywood" was "GOLDRUSH Junction" not "TOMBSTONE Junction" . Still I don't remember this place . I'll have to look at Bing or Google Maps aerial view to see if I can see any remains of the old "Tombstone Junction" park .
