Chosen by the BBC to be part of the BBC Norfolk Film Festival 2010 this film was show on the big screen at The Forum in Norwich everyday during October. The theme was People, Places and Everyday Life.
As Britain awoke to the prospect of a hung Parliament on Friday 7th May we had to go to King's Lynn, Norfolk for a mid-morning meeting. We arrived an hour early and so I took these clips over about a 45 minute period with the Canon 7D + 17-55mm IS AF USM with Hood + B&W Polariser in my rucksack. Shot in 1080p25 in full manual, all hand-held but with some 'smoothcam' in post production (in FCP on a 2009 8 Core Mac Pro with 'RAID 0' using Apple ProRes). Film then down converted to 720p H.264 for quick web uploading.
The subject matter is very challenging for the 7D because of all the lovely brickwork, tiles, cobbles etc. Our full raster razor sharp Sony EX3 would have been a much better camera for this subject matter/wide type shots - but on the whole it mostly came out OK. At least having a small and highly mobile camera enabled me to capture enough video material for this unplanned web quickie in the very limited time I had. I now plan a trip back up to Lynn soon with more kit to build on this little taster, maybe stopping again en-route home for a nice spot of lunch at the well known Hare Arms near Downham Market (seen in the closing shots).
This short is set to (extracts of) 'Lost Paradise Chilled', some royalty/copyright free music purchased for corporate video work by my company, Shooting Image Ltd. See my professional video work on our website, http://www.shootingimage.co.uk.
Hope you enjoy 'A Spare Hour in King's Lynn (With a Canon 7D)' , my very quick look at the beautiful architecture of King's Lynn!
...and yes I know, I put the wrong date on the end of the film!

how did you zoom out so smoothly?

@MrH4loFighter Actually zoom ins! All done in Final Cut in post. Although everything you see was hand held, you cannot do slow, smooth creeping zooms on a DSLR easily otherwise - they are too ergonomically challenging (especially without a rig like here). Sure there is some resolution loss - but once it's been "slightly mangled" by web uploading/conversion it's of no real consequence.
