I would agree that there was obviously some sound editing. If you watch the billabong odyssey dvd you will see the waves leading up to this one as well as this featured wave. It may help convince you of the authenticity. Also There are cliffs surrounding Pe'ahi on Maui that could have supplied the same camera angles.
Crikey, you guys are all too highly strung. Rosker48, yes I do surf and have done since 1975 if that means anything to you. Isn't a bloke entitled to an opinion with you around or should everyone else's opinion be the same as yours?
what i reckon ? ... go back to school kid.. the microphone is on the surfer , while the video comes from a helicopter . stop thinking so much , you aint that smart
hey forrykook ,, hmmm watch it again mr. negative ... the video is shot from a heli ~ the micro ~ on the surfer .. some people really are that stupid ~ you obviously have never really surfed either ... prolly never even left your room
I've been wondering whether this is real or not and I don't think it is.
1) when the camera, (supposedly in a helicopter) pulls back, the sound of the jet ski also dissipates. You wouldn't hear the ski from a chopper in the first place.
2) Then it goes sort of quiet with atmospheric winds whistling...ahem, the camera is in a chopper - very noisey.
3) During the pull-back the wave face kind of blurs out of focus. Probably disguising some editing.
this is Mike Parsons at Cortez Bank off Califorinia 66ft Brad Gerlach on the ski won billabongs biggest wave of the year prize
