how do i know if my ipod touch is 2 gen?

go into settings then general then about then just look for firmware

or connect your ipod to your computer and it will tell you on itunes.

for anyone whos having trouble creating the firmware procedure try making shure you have the 2.2.1 software on the desktop i tryed at first with it my documents folder and had trouble but once i placed it on my desktop no drahmas it worked first go

There's an easier way to jailbrake an iPod touch with 3.1.3 0r 3.1.2. it's called spirit. it's much easier than any other jailbreak.
