Essence of manifest destiny, by one of the more radical singing groups of the 19th C., the Hutchinson family. On this day we'd just spent a few hours grubbing blackberries out of the Corvallis watershed seen in the background, and all had dirty levis.

  • are you talking aboutCorvallis Oregon?

  • That's the only one there is, I think. The field is just a block east of the end of NW Huckleberry, behind a line of trees, and it is pristine. It was the home of a native village, and you can see along the east side where the old California-Oregon trail ran. Bob Zybach and friends would love to stop the development that is promised.

  • Truman, thanks. (old friend of Row's) had it not been for youtube, i ne'er would have known what talent you have. what a treat. god bless

  • Julian?! Good to hear from you. Life's the same around here, gardens, books, fiddle, and these new devices - youtube & myspace - are fun (if I can figure out how to use myspace). Any oldtime fiddlers in Japan?

  • Blackberry pickin and fiddle music.. can't get any better than that!

  • Thank you (again!) Lavender - really encouraging.

Actually it was spring, and we were uprooting blackberry vines to free the camas. The area was a native village long ago, and has the thickest camas I've ever seen.

  • I think this tune is mentioned by Laura Ingalls Wilder as one of the tunes "Pa" would play on his fiddle.

  • His hat and beard recall one of Walt Whitman. This is a beautiful and touching performance, thank you.

  • A Great American Song.

  • Thats one of the most American songs I have heard in a while.

  • anyone know what chords he's playing?

  • 1 person voted Thumbs Down on this video -- he clearly needs to get a life!

Keep up the good work Truman!

  • This wants me to try playing the fiddle like this. I have neck trouble. Great Video!!!!!!!

  • one of my heroes, i will never forget seeing Truman and Wes play the holiday market 1992. the Valsetz Logger's Lament sticks in my mind and will forever. Truman was gracious enough to autograph my copies of his cd's I bought. It is such a pleasure to watch someone doing what they truly love to do, and knowing they will pursue it until their last breath.

  • I had an irish trad player try to tell me that you can't play irish trad from that position. I have watched this video many times and Mr. Price doesn't seem to have any problems with the rolls, cuts and other ornaments in the song.

  • I hold my fiddle like this TOO<<great song,,i think only a very very few of us hold it like this, keep on playin pal,,your great!!<,such FUN

  • Dang he's good!Makes it look so easy to play.

  • Talk about rubbing your tummy and patting your head! Wow.
