Carried for a long time, I know the Columbia River Knife and Tool (CRKT) Compact M16 EDC pretty well. And there's a lot to like: light 2.1 oz, fast opening, tight lockup with LAWKS safety, nicely designed clip, attractive finishing, good steel (154CM this one), and priced resonably. It's a tiny carry package that packs a 3" blade. Downsides would be a non-reversible clip, sometimes sticky liner lock, and a limited utility spear point blade for EDC tasks (I prefer more sweep, different blade shape). But at around $50 and at 2.1 oz for this length of blade, it's a still a good EDC choice for most./////// Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 5 out of 10

  • I have owned the M16-10KZ for around four years now. My major gripe was with the hardness of the blade, and it's ability to hold an edge. I found it dulled more quickly than my Gerber and Buck knives. It was replaced by a promo knife I recieved from Federal and that was replaced by (strange enough) a CRKT Ignitor. The Ignitor seems to have a harder alloy than the M16. The M16's clip loosened so badly I stopped using the clip for securing it. I did attempt to tighten it but to no avail.

  • I've had one of these for about two years and the tip broke from repeatley throwing in a piece of wood. I new that the tip would break because it was thin to begin with. So I just reshaped the blade and now it looks like one of those Japanese carpentry knives. Still a good knife, I like the flathead screw for tention adjustment.

  • I love this knife! Thanks for the review on it!

  • Hey Nutnfancy, I love your videos and have a request. Please review the new version of this knife. Its called the CRKT M16-01KZ with the black blade black handle and plain edge. They also changed the handle material to a better material. It's now Zytel.

  • i have this knife, and i like it alot. the one major thing i didnt like was the clip! mine fell right off of the knife. still a sweet blade though.

  • @binkymagnus the autolawk desighn is acually genius, i had a smith and wesson knife close on me cutting me real deep. i dont have to worry about this one doing that :)

  • Hey nutnfancy I just got my CRKT m16 yesterday at Dominion shooting range and I love it already! Great review man!

  • @1hogfan83 My gerber freeman would say otherwise. Got me through many jams at work.

  • Good review, thanks! But mine has been buggy. The blade pivot screw is either too tight, in which case I have to snap it open really hard and the liner lock gets jammed so I have to get a needle nose to pop it free to close, or the screw is too loose, in which case there's blade wobble. I don't like the auto-lawks thing at all. Seems kind of unnecessary, and I can't figure out how to close the thing one-handed. This is a real bummer because I like the knife a lot (I have the tanto blade one).

  • Mine is crappy AUS4 steel, but it has held an edge with light use. I use it as a gentleman's EDC knife. The clip makes it low key.
