  • I would say don't let the bastards get u dowhn.. lool im just kidding but I am nigerian but I was born and raised in America.. so nigerians hate that I know all about the culture, have a full african name.. and cannot speak the language ..im like i should av just been BLACK.. lmao

  • @NaijaConservative she is a african-american, from nigeria....

  • i understand!!!! I am Nigerian American...Dad is nigerian and mom is American Black... it is hurtful when others comment but I'm really interested in my Nigerian heritage so I kind of stop caring and decided to do what I want... I plan to learn the language this summer when I visit my dad in lagos.

  • Don't let the Nigerian brother/sisterhood get you down! I'm actually fully Nigerian (Igbo) but I'm British and don't actually speak the language either - yet - but I used to get a similar response because in the UK at least, I sound a bit 'posh', so they'd think I was a 'coconut' (until I'd tell them more about African history than even the history textbooks - unexpected kudos for geekage I suppose), lol.

Anyway, great to hear someone speaking out on MS, LGBTQ issues etc! Really inspiring.

  • @NaijaConservative

I second that. Nigeria is an African nation which the dominant race is Black. Hence the word African American is derived from the fact that Africans (Blacks) where brought from Africa to the America. Just as Asian American is derived from the fact People from Asian came to America and settled there. The Africa in African American to me is a powerful identification that reinforce the origin and roots of Black people.
