Rep. McGovern: "The Republican answer to every problem is more tax cuts for the wealthy. Medicare prescription drugs? Tax cuts for the wealthy drug companies and HMOs. An energy bill? Tax cuts for the oil and gas industry despite their record-breaking profits. And now an increase the minimum wage with estate tax cuts for the wealthiest few attached. The Republicans believe that low-wage workers don't deserve a raise unless Paris Hilton also gets a big tax cut. No wonder the American people are so sick and tired of politics as usual in Washington."

  • The wealthy are the REPUBLICAN BASE!!! Where was the worry about the Debt from the teabaggers when W was in??? Oh thats right...his skin was white!!!

  • What is the point of raising min wage. By the time you get done paying income taxes it kicks you down to $4.00 an hour.

  • In case anyone hasn't noticed, the government manages the interests of the rich, while lying to the poor, asking them to go to war with countries that pose no threat, profit from them, and then turn around and tell working class families to stop complaining while our representatives live like kings.

And hey why be biased? Dems and Reps are livin it up.

  • No, he's not, but you may be. The share of after-tax income of the top 1% has nearly doubbled (from 7.5% to 14%) since 1979. Yes, they pay more taxes than any other demographic, becuase they earn far more income! Yet, they are pulling ahead of the bottom 99%; they are not sharing the pain of paying taxes equally with those in the middle and working classes; tax rates on the rich would need to be much higher to distribute the tax burden justly.

  • Good to see someone with common sense in Congress! This man is simply saying what most economists, political scientists and other social scientists already know - mind you that for every political scientists who's Republican there are 22 Democrats and there's a good reason for that!

  • Tax cuts are for those who pay the most into the system. And people's wages are a direct reflection of their value. This guy is out of touch with reality even tough he might sound good as a populist.

Today, Republicans and Democrats cut taxes this year in the form of "rebates" that's for everybody, especially families.

That's a real benefit that will help us all. I'll bet this clown votes against this measure; I hope I'm wrong.

  • Dear Nancy,

How about exposing the one guy who would benefit the most from the elimination of the estate tax?

How about forcing him to tell us how much he's got?

Why does the president want the estate tax elminated? Cause his dad is one of the richest guys in creation.

While you're at it, tax carlyle.

  • No, we love and have sex with women and we employ gays to remodel our summerhomes. Cheers!

  • Income taxes are a part of the democrats socialist agenda in this country. That is why I oppose them and don't care if some rich guy has more money.

  • "Even very conservative economists who have worked for the Bush administration - including Greg Mankiw, a former chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers under President Bush who is now an advisor to Mr. Romney - have publicly stated that today's tax revenues would be EVEN HIGHER were it NOT for the Bush tax cuts" - Jonathon Chait, a senior editor at the NEW REPUBLIC!
