Sydney once had a very large tramway system that was unfortunately dismantled almost 50 years ago. Thankfully we can remember the good old days of Sydney trams "shooting through" as we watch the action on this very large HO scale layout.

Various types of Sydney trams are featured on the layout, along with an amazing collection of buildings giving the impression of a thriving city. The layout was surrounded with many historical documents and photos so we could compare the model to the real thing.

Filmed at Hobsons Bay exhibition 2005.

  • Are the trams kits or scratchbuilt?

    Cheers,

  • Probably a mixture of kits and scratchbuilt. Weico make some tram kits that more than likely feature on the layout.

  • hey where did u get your buildings? good job on the layout!

  • It's not my layout so I can't give exact details, however I can see a lot of buildings I recognise from the Vollmer, Faller, Kibri, Walthers & DPM range, most of which you can find by going to those manufacturers websites (or in the walthers online catalogue). If you google "city classics structures", "chooch enterprises ultra scale" , "lunde studios" and "cmr custom model railroads" you'll find some more buildings that would fit in with this layouts style.

  • Cool vid, where did you get the model trams??? Where did you get those tracks??? Can you also buy the CURRENT sydney trams???

  • I filmed the layout at an exhibition so can't help with specifics, however if you do a google on "weico models" you'll find some Australian trams that would be featured on the layout.

  • Cool!

  • One of the arguments for the abandonment of trams for buses was that "trams hold up traffic". Forty or fifty years of experience since has taught us that traffic is perfectly capable of holding itself up with no help from trams.

  • melbourne beats you =)

  • It was so lame that Sydney got rid of its trams. It was once one of the largest systems in the world.

  • who would want MLR trams??? Just get a German or European Low floor tram and kit bash it until it resembles a MLR Tram

***NOTE*** MLR stands for Metro light rail

  • thanks a lot!
