There is a better way to get a job in today's economy and that is by using LinkedIn and some know how. This video will help you realize the power of LinkedIn when it comes to finding a way to separate yourself and get recommended for the position by an employee instead of being in a pile of resume's so high that they won't ever even see all of the candidates.

Good luck, go for it.

  • I hadn't seen this video before, but I did what you are saying a couple of days ago and it worked. I was looking only to get feedback from people who were working within a company that I wanted to get an internship in. I did a search on Facebook and asked employees of that company how they liked working there. 2 days later, someone said their friend is the hiring manager and they will submit my resume and recommend me. Sometimes it does work.

  • Very cool, the idea is that you need to somehow separate yourself from the resume pile and be considered separate for the position and you accomplished that. You should at least be seen and considered. That is much more than I can say for the folks in the full pile of resumes

  • Thanks, Shawn. I'll put it to the old field test and let you know how I do. Keep up the good work!

  • That sounds great, not it helps tremendously, if you find a company that you don't have any contacts in, you can ask me and I could probably find the contacts for you since I have 16 million that I am connected to in LinkedIn. If you need to get a hold of me, it is easy to do, I don't hide

  • I wish I could like this 1000 times!!!

  • @Laurafisher480 Stop whining and be part of the solution and Network with professionals who can get you where you need to be. The difference between people like yourself and an average HS graduate is the HS graduate accepts what they are given. You think the world owes you because you went that extra mile? Yeah right Just because you went to college doesn't entitle you to anything. Its hard times for everyone, nobody will deny that, but you are not special.

  • @Laurafisher480 Your message is unprofessional and so perhaps you need to change your attitude while job hunting.

  • I've tried it! You're right, it is more effective than just applying without any contacts. However, for younger people who don't have decades of experience in 1 particular area (who aren't specialized yet), it'll only get them an interview. They can interview well but they're still just 1 of at least 6 or 7 applicants on average. A couple of those applicants are going to have much better experience than the recent grad. Also, read about Taleo, it can make things even more difficult

  • @Laurafisher480 I understand, I did not say that it was easy, but I am saying that what most do to gain a job is a major crap shoot. Did you look at my new video set on this? Where I step through the entire process with screen shots one after another. Most people are not willing to pick up the phone and call directly into the company that they want to get with and to do it by saying things that will help them and not hurt their cause. Give me a call if you have any questions: 801 742-1105

  • @nwmpro I want to get a job in customer service or for administrative assistant in missisauga. I don't have any contacts

  • @nwmpro I want to contact investments bankers in Toronto for networking. Can you help me

  • This is an electronic version of the book "What Color is Your Parachute" which is a great read for those looking for employment in this economy. Good video, this is how things will work from on due to the twitter-ization of the human brain...no one reads anymore!

  • Thank you Shawn for the tip. I am definitely going to give it a try.
