The USDA-AMS LGMN Branch provides a weekly video providing timely market information and quotes pertaining to feeder cattle. The LGMN Branch compiles and disseminates information aiding producers, consumers, and distributors in the sale and purchase of livestock, meat, grain, and their related products.
I highly doubt that grower yards are selling cattle because they 'are not set up to fatten them'. It probably has more to do with selling a feeder steer/heifer for $10 cwt more than you can buy a 3 to 400 lb replacement calf for. As the old saying goes if you want to know why, just follow the money. Unless you work for the government, then money is no object.
