As a lover of Joris Ivens (and documentaries in general), I must agree with the others who said that music does not have any place here.
I do like what you've done. Maybe, in the name of artistic purity, just renaming the video, mentioning the "interpretative" part that you've added, would make a difference.
I appreciate your appreciation for the artists´ intensions, but this is a silent film shot in 1929. According to "anaferreria" the music was added in 2005 and has therfore nothing to do with Ivens intentions. Beside I don´t understand why you disqualify suggestions of other users as "laughably" and "charmingly naive". Tastes are different.
Clearly a remarkable " imagistic" type of film, all atmospheric. The music is tailor maid to correspond, tonally, to the diegetic events portrayed. To suggest eliminating the instrumental notes and replacing them with a pitter-patter sound-track of rain is laughably if charmingly naive. It demonstrates that the viewer just isn't getting /appreciating the intentionality of the filmmaker (who obviously could have used a soundtrack of rain had he wanted to).
Very interesting and great film. Only... the music does not at all fit with it. It gives a totally other atmosphere than the pictures suggest. Meaningless tunes.
@paulmx
I agree. The sound of rain is endlessly interesting (if you know how to listen to it ;-)) and beautiful as it is.
In this particular context, it is the only possible audio "accompaniment" that I can imagine.

So dominicue is blatantly and shamefully wrong :)

I recommend you all people to watch this short without its music, but with real raining sound. It's even more beautiful.

Beautiful short film. The music here was done by Larry Marotta in 2005.
