It's not embarrassing, it's a very common mistake - and that is why I corrected it. Not as much to correct you, but as to teach any readers. Christianity has a major influence on the way other religions are interpreted in the West - that is only natural. It's funny how Christianity in the North has been heavily influenced by Asatru too - a saying goes: "Asatru is to Christianity, like a stone to water; even if submerged for a thousand years, it will still be dry inside"

Hel is the place you go if you do not go to the realm of Ran (people who drown), Valhal (the place for warriors who die in battle and kings) or Folkvangr (another place for people who die in battle). While Valhal is Odin's domain, Folkvangr is the domain of Freya.

All who die of old age, illness or other means that does not send you to any of the other places send you to Hel. Hel is not always portrayed as a bad place as such and is not only for bad people.
