Marurrumburr is sung by the Galpu and many Dhuwa clans. It has different meanings and names depending on its locality. To the Galpu, Marurrumburr is associated and keeps close company with Wititj the Olive Python. To the Liyagalawumirr people, Durrurrnga patrilineage, Marurrumburr is associated with the Milky Way (Badurru) complex concerning death and the first mortuary rites.

Here, Winiwini is playing 2 versions of Marurrumburr.

  • I prefer the 2nd version.

  • Second rhythm spirit dance? i know that same rhythms are used for different natural elements and intentions, but i wonder how the spirit dance is associated with marurrumburr? At the end all rhythms are related as all natural elements, but i would like to know when they play yidaki rhythms, how they are alined to tell an overall story. Is it like poetry speaking of the the human experience through nature? I noticed wawa playing marurrumburr rhythm on the yidaki #1 video (2nd rhythm).

  • Thanks for these great songs and information behind them. Do you happen to have video where singers and dancers are performing the same song? I sure hope you got more of these! Just Great! Thanks!
