Hi, today I'll demonstrate how to apply a video stabilization effect.
We will turn a shaky video like this,
into something like this,
for editing in Windows Movie Maker.
If VirtualDub is not on your computer already,
you will need to visit virtualdub.org to download the compressed folder and extract the files.
Feel free to ask me for detailed instructions.
Fisrt, we'll download the Deshaker filter that we'll use to stabilize our video.
We'll go to guthspot.se, click Video Tools, click Deshaker video stabilizer, and click Download Deshaker.
Then we'll extract the filter to our VirtualDub folder.
Now we can open VirtualDub and drag and drop our video into the gray area.
If VirtualDub does not support your video type, feel free to ask me how to convert it.
To save space, I'll compress the video by clicking Video in the menu bar, and then Compression.
I'll use the DivX Codec, which you can download for free from divx.com.
To start stabilizing our video, we'll click Video again, then Filters.
Click Add and select Deshaker.
Change the source pixel aspect to your video's type.
Now click the Pass 1 button at the top.
The default settings balance speed and stabilization quality, but you can change them as desired.
Then click OK, and OK again.
Now press the play button with a subscript O next to it. This plays the video output and renders Pass 1.
For me, Pass 1 took a little longer than the lenth of my test video.
When it finishes, click the Video menu button again, then Filters.
Now double-click the listing.
Switch Deshaker from Pass 1 to Pass 2.
If you look at the options under Edge compensation, Adaptive zoom will zoom in on your video sometimes.
This is needed to deshake the video, but it will create some borders.
Adaptive zoom only will not smooth the zooming process, resulting in possibly jumpy edges.
Fixed zoom zooms in the necessary amount to eliminate all borders.
Adaptive plus fixed zoom applies a fixed zoom on top of an adaptive zoom, to eliminate all borders.
Adaptive plus fixed only applies a fixed zoom on top of adaptive zoom only.
When you are finished, click OK, and OK again.
VirtualDub will take a bit to deshake the video.
Now click File, and then Save as AVI.
Select a location and a file name and click Save.
For me, it took almost twice as long as the duration of my video to finish rendering and saving.
Now let's open up Windows Movie Maker and drag and drop the new, stabilized video into the Collections.
From here, we can drag the video onto the Timeline for even further editing.
I hope this video helped you, thank you so much for watching, and have a great life.
I have a flip ultra HD and i have exported the flipshar video into a windows media player form and when i drag my video into the gray space it says file type not supported? can you help me?

what if I have a Sony camcorder, for example, model DCR-SR68, which I think has .mov format. How do I use VirtualDub for .mov files? While I'm asking, how about other files from many other make and models of different video cameras, what should I do or upload maybe some codecs, so that VirtualDub supports these other files and formats?
