WENT TO # 5 IN 1967. LYRICS:You wander around
on your own little cloud
when you don't see the why
or the wherefore.

Ooh, you walk out on me
when we both disagree
'cause to reason is not what you care for.

I've heard it all a million times before.
Take off your coat, my love, and close the door.

Don't sleep in the subway, darlin'.
Don't stand in the pouring rain.
Don't sleep in the subway, darlin'.
The night is long.
Forget your foolish pride.
Nothing's wrong,
now you're beside me again.

You try to be smart
then you take it to heart
'cause it hurts when your ego is deflated.
um-m-um-um-um-um
You don't realize
that it's all compromise
and the problems are so over-rated.

Good-bye means nothing when it's all for show.
So why pretend you've somewhere else to go?

Don't sleep in the subway, darlin'.
Don't stand in the pouring rain.
Don't sleep in the subway, darlin'.
The night is long.
Forget your foolish pride.
Nothing's wrong,
now you're beside me again.

Oh, oh, oh.
Don't sleep in the subway, darlin'.
Don't stand in the pouring rain.
Don't sleep in the subway, darlin'.
The night is long.
Forget your foolish pride.
Nothing's wrong,
now you're beside me again.

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh,
(repeat chorus and fade out)

  • @nomiclas , That can be said for many successful female singers...Diana Ross, Madonna, etc..However, to me, Petula's voice was one of the voices that embodied the 60's. She was distinctive

  • Petula You,ll Always Be The Best Ever on Earth!! At Least To Me....Love you <3

  • Simply as good as it gets. I remember listening to this back in the day as a 14 year old nerdy teen and it still sounds as good as ever.

  • Petula Clark has the best voice!

  • @nox240 ,I appreciate your blog post, cause I thought it was due to me getting old (late 40's) that I don't like so much of modern pop music that's released today. It's grotesquely without soul, mostly synthetic, auto-tuned. It doesn't sound real. The only talent required of it is people to mime the sounds. Early 30's is not old dude. I don't know what it's going to take to get back to real sounding music. I thought the mp3 revolution would take care of that, but it didn't, just made it worse.
