President Rafael Trujillo is who started this riff among Haitians and Dominicans and to this day they still hold on to it. Even Haitians did not like being called black either because Black for most foreigners was a name that only refereed to African Americans. But things have changed because white America places all people of African descent in to the same box.

@MissASP1993 They did not always say that, they once had a racist leader named President Rafael Trujillo who hated anyone black and to differentiate between who was or not the Dominicans started to refer to their skin color as light brown, olive, light skin, medium brown, fairly white and all sorts of labels. With that the black Haitians who lived their (there are white Haitians and Hispanic looking ones) Well Trujillo round up 20,000 Haitians and massacred them in 1937. This is why.

I know this is off subject but I really get confused when people say Dominicans AREN'T BLACK!? They look just like black Americans to me. Anyway, it looks like you guys had a great time! :-D
