Alan Bristow (of helicopter / millionaire fame) spent over £8 million developing a light tram (rubber tyred) in 1991. It crashed when demonstrated to TV reporters and was never heard of again.

  • Die Weiche war falsch gestellt - klar, da entgleist das Fahrzeug - wie in Brühl, Germany, Fahrer denkt geradeaus, gibt Gas und dann kommt doch noch eine Weiche die auf abbiegen steht. Das wirft nunmal alles aus den Gleisen. Frage: Wäre es nicht sinnvoller nur noch Weichen herzustellen die mit Vmax der Strecke in beide Richtungen zu befahren sind? Klar müsste die ganze Strecke geändert werden, doch wenn es der Sicherheit dient!?

  • I believe Montreal has a rubber tired rapid transit system liek this. It's quiet, and there are some maintenance advantages,

    but it does consume a lot of tires.

  • Shame the idea didn't catch on. Alan Bristow was highly regarded before his death in April 09.
