A quick (in every sense of the word) boil using 500ml of water, the Mark Jurey Penny Alcohol Stove and a full fill of alcohol, in this case inexpensive fondue spirit fuel (500ml / $1).
We get a rolling boil in about five minutes at an ambient temperature of about 10 degrees Celsius.

Mark Jurey's Penny Alcohol Stove is a perfect match for the Vargo Titanium Hexagon Wood Stove. It's much lighter than my Trangia meths burner, and all in, not much heavier than the pot stand I used to use.

Check out my review on the build quality of the Vargo Titanium Hexagon Wood Stove. If the quality of the stove was a little better, I would highly recommend this as a viable, reliable and ultralight solo or two-person camping cook system.

  • If you're using the stove with the hexagon, you don't have to wait for it to prime, you can just plonk the pot straight on. Save yourself 0.030z of fuel. You have to carry that.

  • Glad to see its not only my Jurey Penny Stove that has battered edges.....lol

  • if you pull the ferraro rod backwards it not hit the stove
