Testing the Canon FS200 flash memory camcorder again in Best Buy. This time I brought my iPod Shuffle along to test the Canon's stereo external microphone input. I think it sounds pretty good, but it is a microphone-level input, so it would be best to use an attenuation cable or dB pad when connecting a line-level or headphone-jack source. That would hopefully eliminate the background noise and distortion.

  • I have this camcorder, but when I encode in Adobe Media Encoder, then upload to YouTube, it doesn't fill the player as yours does...I get slight letterboxing at the top and bottom (and the quality isn't as good as yours). If you don't mind me asking...how did you get yours to fill the screen so nicely? I'm thinking my encoding settings are off, but I have no clue as to what is best? Thanks in advance.

  • @zuhloobie As I've answered to other people asking the same question, please watch the video "How to edit/upload from SD camcorders".

  • @vwestlife Not to sound snarky, but I did and otherwise wouldn't have asked. I was interested in encode settings that you use, but I guess from that vid you don't encode at all? Just save and upload? I would do that, but my vids are 300+mb and am not going to wait 2+ hours uploading. Thanks anyway!

  • @zuhloobie Just use SDcopy to attach the proper 16:9 widescreen attribute to the video. Then you can use it in any video editor and it should be properly recognized as a 16:9 video.

  • I cant get my videos to upload full screen.

  • @TheShootTruth10 Look up my video "How to edit/upload from SD camcorders".

  • Standard definition videos recorded in 16:9 on my camera come up properly as widescreen fine, odd. Strange how some people have problems with that.

  • @vwestlife I think there's a disconnect between Canon, the Canon software (Pixela) and Adobe Media Encoder. Your method from the camera to SDcopy and uploading to YouTube does fill the screen. But I'm not happy with the upload time. Exporting the movie from Pixela to my desktop does keep the WS attributes (not exporting from Pixela does not recognize WS). Putting that export into Encoder makes it quicker upload, but it does not fill the screen. Thanks though, I'll keep searching!

  • @NoNeedForAcceptance The built-in mic has a little bit of background hiss, but otherwise is very good.

  • quick question.

hows the sound with out the external mic?
