The Yaesu FT-857D is a great rig for fixed, portable, or mobile operations. I was using 20 watts to check-in with the Midcars Net on 7258 MHz on the 40 meter phone band. The antenna, believe it or not, was a 40 meter Workman "hamstick" attached to a painter's pole and using a 12 foot counterpoise wire. Not bad, eh?.
