NEW CD & DVD!
STRINGS SISTERS: LIVE IN NORWAY
Recorded live in Drammen Theatre on tour in Norway February 2005.

It began at Celtic Connections in January of 2001, when Catriona Macdonald saw one of her dreams become a reality by assembling some of the world's top leading female fiddlers. Colin Hynd at Celtic Connections grabbed the chance to premiere the event at his festival, and the experience was nothing short of earth shattering for all who participated. The Glasgow concert was a great success and the project was rebooked for the following year. However, despite the repeated success, the Sisters have not since been able to reunite prior to undertaking a grand tour of Norway in 2005.

During the winter of 2005, the sisters went on tour in Norway, in cooperation with the Norwegian National Concerts, and Grappa Music Group. The tour was Annbjørg Lien's initiative. In a recent interview with Ballade.no, Lien says: "The Norwegian tour and the live recordings mark the start of a whole new level of activity for the Sisters. The plan now is to tour each of our home countries and release the record in relation to each tour."

Annbjørg Lien from Norway joins Catriona Macdonald from Shetland, Liz Carroll and Liz Knowles from America, Mairead ni Mhaonaigh (Altan) from Ireland and Emma Härdelin from Sweden to assemble in Glasgow to celebrate each of their region's musical traditions and launch their first and long-awaited CD and DVD "Live in Norway". On the 22nd of January 2007, the String Sisters go back to where it all started: at Celtic Connections in Glasgow.
Band: Tore Bruvoll, guitar, Conrad Ivitsky: doublebas, James Mackintosh: drums and percussion, David Milligan: piano

  • @fiedelmina

All that is in your head. I really enjoyed that solo.

  • Nah, I think you're wrong. Guitar solo is good, this guy is a part of a well know duo. Besides, he plays another instrument, why would he try to give that impression?

  • that guitar solo is so not necessary. it gives the impression the guy feels he has to prove that men are still the better musicians or somethin.

  • I've seen Mairead ni Mhaonaigh live and she is amazing, and really nice too!

  • This is definetly progressive rock :D

I mean, progressive rock is definetly "inspired" by popular music

  • This is amazing!!

I've seen Liz Carroll play live before, but I'd never seen any of the other fiddlers. This was really great!! Thanks for sharing!

  • ahh beautiful ^_^

  • I completely agree. It sounded very messy as you said, and that extra echo didn't fit at all. The violins were flowing, while the guitar was stumbling.

  • I've met Liz Knowles she is REALLY nice. I would LOVE to see Liz Carroll perform. THAT would be amazing.

  • If you watch Mairead ni Mhaonaigh her fingers fly off the string too and I do that as well so it's really what you are comfortable with. You will see fiddlers hold the bow differently hold the fiddle differently. It's what feels right for you.
