First Callshop Meeting in Regensburg gave a positive summary (May 5th, 2011)

Roughly 40 people participated in the first test run of a new campaign form named "Callshop Meeting". Sitting in the "Runway" internet cafe in Albertstraße, near the bus terminal, they phoned up publicy Members of the European Parliament in Brusseles' Rue Vie and discussed the topic data retention with them.

"We're happy about this overwhelming response and the possitive outcoming", says Benjamin Schötz from AK Vorrat Regensburg. "Usually the MEPs don't get direct feedback from the public". Stefan Christop from Green Youth (Grüne Jugend) mostly made good experiences: "The MEPs were glad getting in direct contact with the people."

After data retention has been stopped in several countries, the EU commission was forced to rewrite the guideline. Constitutional courts in several states had declared the guideline to commit a breach of basic rights. Only view regulations have been discussed that controversially. Many members of the European Parliament tend to criticize data retention, but they're still making up their mind.

Therefore it's even more important to have Callshop Meetings", says Armin Schmid from AK Vorrat. "If the public wants to participate in the decision, we have to face the politicians and contact them where they are."

AK Vorrat Regensburg is glad about the successful first performance of this new campaign form. The're planning further events of this type. Furthermore they want to support other groups in other places throughout Europe who are interested in performing their own Callshio meetings.
