Obama dance

Suurimmaaanitchuat Dance group - Barrow, Alaska
This dance was created for the Inaugural Parade by group leader Warren Matumeak, and performed (in video) by Ovluaq (Robert Akpik, Jr.). The translation is something like this:
Obama, Obama;
We have come to see you'
from afar off we have come to see you;
It is said that our Father above watches us;
Whatever we do, He watches us;
If, when you come upon some difficulties, try remembering him;
try asking him;
He will help you;
Obama, Obama!
{The rest of the "words" in the song are song fillers, such as "ayaaya aiy".}

My wife was like, OMG! inupiaq dancers! but it was only 5 seconds and i didnt get a chance to see :(

*haha* yea, it was cool to see my parents and my brother. My son (10) and myself will be joining the group when they get back. I used to dance with the group about 10 years ago but moved away for school then work, we just moved back to barrow so we are excited to get into dancing again. :) I'm hoping they get copies of the news or something while they were there, i'll find out when they return

the wife and kids joined northwest inupiaq dancers ... its fun to see them start dancing! we are thinking about going to kivgiq in feb -- just to watch though ;)
