@MRKNIGHT, how can they design effective monitoring and measurement satellites if they don't know what questions they're trying to answer? I'm guessing they'll study anything they need to in order to make the most of the space around our planet.

Because you can find information relative to space in our own oceans, one most importantly that I can think of is the study of astro biology and how that relates to certain parts of the deep ocean floor.

@MRKNIGHT maybe because most of the oceanography that takes place is monitored by NASA satellites? I guess it's also pretty important to know what's here when trying to understand what's out there?

i think its good for an oceanographer to use science to study the sea. throw sticks, tarot cards, runes and sea shanties are just over rated.
