one of the coolest people ever lived, it seems, along with Hendrix etc.
conclusion: the more you are true to yourself and who you are, the more others appreciate your persona.

Wonderful upload, so great to see the full context of "Glenn Gould plays Bach", but where is it from? And was it part of a larger series or documentary that is available?

I play various instruments myself, and I find that 1-3 drinks do NOT affect ones technical playing

I can tell you from my own experience that it is impossible to play the way he plays if one has been drinking beforehand, period. One's fingers literally turn to spaghetti. Perhaps with other kinds of music it is possible, but with the precision required for this kind of music, no. That doesn't mean he never drank alcohol; that I don't know. He seems pretty laid back here, for sure, but I think he had such confidence in his abilities that he could afford to be . . . laid back.

I think you're right, I was just telling Vam... that I didn't think Gould was a teetotaler. It is a great series of videos regardless.

At the time this was filmed, I don't think he was taking much of any pills. That came later, as he became more reclusive and developed full-blown hypochondria, taking more and more pills for real and imagined illnesses and disorders. I wouldn't be surprised if this didn't contribute to his massive stroke at such a young age. This series of videos is delightful showing him at a young age and more spontaneous than he was in later interviews.
