Omaha, NE Town Hall Meeting w/ Senator Ben Nelson

I thought it would be interesting to photograph and shoot video of some of the more outspoken right-wing elements in attendance. I spent time w/ the pro-reform crowd as well, but they failed to provide a comparable level of drama and excitement. The first mistake I made was shooting video of a verbal confrontation between an attendee and a security guard. Next thing I know, I'm surrounded by security guards who are threatening to confiscate my camera. One guard was cool and basically told me to scram while I had the chance. Listen for the security guards coming up behind me at the very end of the video.
Footage was taken at the conclusion of the town hall meeting on the University of Nebraska Medical Center campus (8/19/09).

I know some of those officers. They're actually pretty cool, but they're serious about squashing disturbances around there before they get out of hand. I hope they didn't take your camera!

No, they had mercy on me. I think that after talking to me for a few seconds they realized I wasn't there to raise hell.

It's not often that you see that magnitude of passion on display in Omaha. The World-Herald would never publish the pictures I felt it was important to take. Remember, that even on the verge of losing all relevance, they have to maintain the bullshit illusion of a safe and sleepy heartland town. Independent media, amateur or pro, helps flesh out the details of a story.

Wow..that is wild they chased you out., I missed that. Allot of people where video taping during the whole thing and left alone.

I was the one holding the culper flag in your video behaving civilly also. I was trying to make a statement about freedoms and liberty.

I believe you. My mistake. I won't deny that I made a false assumption. I don't think the issue is so much where this guy stands on health care reform, but his "constant harassing". I'm sure this guy feels strongly about the issue just like most people there. I'm pro-reform and behaved civilly, but got chased out of there also, just because I took a video of it..

The guy in blue talking to the police was a Pro-health care not against it. He was constantly harassing the people against it. I know because he sat next to me in the meeting and followed me in.
