  • my sun conure is almost a year old and is decently potty trained, he poops when i say poop (most of the time) and i am holding him over the garbage, but how do i break his old habits? every time i open the cage it seems like first thing he does is climb out and poop right on the carpet, its very annoying because i cant get him to stop and it has become the norm for him. also he attempts to poop over people when he is being held, but like i said.... attempts. how do i get him to stop doing this?

  • @AllGucciPrint you can try to give him a treat just as he comes out of the cage, then get him to step up on your hand, then get him to poop once the bird is done the treat this may take several times to try to change his routine habit.(may have to try a few diffrent things to throw him off his routine maybe a favorite toy may also work)

  • could u PLEASE....... tell me how to train my yeelow sided conure please!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If you want to avoid the possible cloaca problems then teach them a place they can pooh anytime they want to pooh.

My bird (Skittles) was taught simply by me understanding what she was about to do when she "tensed up." She'd do that and I'd run her to the cage.

Now that she's flighted, she just flies to her cage to pooh. Birds are very intelligent creatures so potty training can be pretty simple if you learn to read the "signs" and you don't mind running all day long for a while, lol.

  • What happens if your wearing a white shirt and a baby yells "I have to go poop!?"

    Lol that would be funny

  • I commend you for this. My Jenday Conure "Rodrick" will never poop on the serviette I provide, instead he holds it so he can do it on my shoulder or on my chair.

  • @rockybeach1 ill start using some of his favorite treats, thanks. i just like to keep his cage open when im in the room, he always sneaks out and poops when im not looking. he much rather poop on my floor then in his cage lol

  • I tried this trick on my girlfriend......it doesnt work :(

  • I did that with my conure, but I realy didn't think he was, so I didn't put him in his cage, and he pooped on meh. :3

  • @2skittles4u A friend of mine told me the exact same suggestion, except try making note of the time they do it, and how long before they do it again, and that apparently you can set a timer to warn you and do it pre-emptively to save you running. :)

  • very cute ^ ^ my conure was potty trained with the sink instead of the napkin :)

  • okay i got a cinnamon green cheek conure about a week ago and shes already very attached to me and loves me to pet her and my mom HATES when she poops on the floor or anywhere for that matter.i would like to potty train her but what if she just doesnt go over the napkin?and ur like waiting and waiting...i would rather not stand there for an hour lol.

It was just repetition of constantly running her to the cage every time she had to pooh. She eventually got the "hint" and started flying on her own to the cage whenever she had to pooh. It only took about a month if memory serves correctly. Maybe less. I know it was a WHOLE LOT EASIER than I ever dreamed it could be! Skittles used to sleep with me in bed at night too. This gave me the chance to get her to her cage for her morning pooh before she even woke up. That helped.
