Furlough Protest

Congressman Abercrombie has been urging the state to use federal economic recovery funding from the Obama Administration to avoid teacher furloughs. Meanwhile, he has also been working with the U.S. Department of Education to find a way to avoid future furlough days. In Honolulu, hundreds of Hawaii public school students, parents, teachers and other supporters gathered for a protest at the State Capitol in Honolulu on Furlough Friday, October 23, 2009. It was the first day schools were closed because of teacher furlough days that have been implemented by the state on 17 Fridays to help close a massive budget shortfall.

Furlough fridays are the best thing since sliced bread! I'm happy we have that many less days of school
