In the aftermath of the entrance of the U.S. into World War II, there were fears of a Japanese attack on California. There were some submarine attacks on West Coast shipping. However, a false report of Japanese aircraft over Los Angeles led to the "Battle of L.A.," with anti-aircraft guns firing into the sky. This clip illustrates the early wartime tensions in California and Los Angeles. Such tensions reflected the climate that led to the internment of the West Coast Japanese-origin population.
