Biography by William Ruhlmann
Jo Jo Gunne was a rock group formed in Los Angeles in 1971 by Jay Ferguson (b. May 10, 1947; Burbank, CA) (keyboards, vocals) and Mark Andes (b. February 19, 1948; Philadelphia) (bass, vocals) after they left Spirit. They added Mark's brother Matt Andes (b. California) (guitar, vocals) and Curley Smith (b. January 31, 1952; Wolf Point, MT) (drums) to complete the lineup, signed to Asylum Records, and made a self-titled debut album containing the Top 40 hit "Run, Run, Run," after which Mark Andes left the band and was replaced by Jimmy Randall (b. February 14, 1949, Dallas). (Andes went on to be a member of Firefall and Heart.) The group continued for three more albums with more personnel changes, but did not maintain the commercial momentum of its debut and broke up in 1975. Ferguson has made solo albums and scored movies.

  • HELL YEA !!!!!!!!! love that old school music -

  • L.A guns sent me here :)

  • I use to love this band. Saw them open for "Point Blank & ZZ Top" in Muncie Indiana in 73 or so...

  • @taildragger53 - well yeah, but i was just pointing out the 70's school-disco think, not a general history lesson on clubbing lol

  • @dancetech Infact , Mark Birley opened the first discotheque in Berkeley Square (Annabels) in 1960.

Then came The Peppermint Lounge in NY in the 1960s....the term took off in the UK around 1969.

But the idea of a get together joint goes way , way back to The Cotton Club.

    Best wishes...

  • @Freyja1133 - no, you dont get it. school disco, as in "discoteque", the original meanin, thats what they were called - and at such a "school disco" in britain circa early 70's they played this, tamla, trex, sweet, dave & ansell collins, early slade etc, & whatever other hits that suited dancing such as the track Ressurection Shuffle. "Discos" existed long before "disco" the club genre

  • Could Joe joe gun be considered as a proto metal band?
