RAISING THE JOLLY ROGER ~ A WILDWOOD CREST TRADITION

The raising of the Jolly Roger statue atop the Jolly Roger Motel in Wildwood Crest is an annual event that in my opinion has reached tradition status. For as long as I can remember, the giant one-eyed pirate would rise up to greet another summer in wonderful Wildwood Crest. Come autumn he is once again laid down to rest for a long winter slumber. For years I've wanted to capture the this tradition on film but could never manage to catch the action. This year I made it happen and had fun doing it. May the Jolly Roger always stand proud in Wildwood Crest, New Jersey.

They really should organize an annual festival around the raising. I'm sure we could get a large crowd to fill up the tennis courts in front of the motel. ;)

Thanks Al - I'm really glad you enjoyed it. Jolly Roger went up late this year because their busy making improvements to the pool deck area (which is looking great by the way). The music comes from the Pirate Land game board in Mario Party 2 for Nintendo.

I agree, let's make it an annual party. Driving in from Rio Grande Blvd. to our condo in the Crest along Atlantic Ave. it's always a sign that summer's a comin' when we see that the Pirate Has Risen once again! With all the cool things going away like the Golden Nugget and Giant Slide it would be nice to start making a bigger deal out of the old traditions that are still around!
