"THE FOE", IS WAR. "THE DEAD", IS 9 MILLION. - IN FLANDERS FIELDS by JOHN McCRAE. For THE 90th ANNIVERSARY of World War I /The Great War's End.(NOV. 11. 08) McCrae was amused and astonished at the way it was used after being published. One of the best Anti-War Poem's written, if not thee Best, BUT Not Known For It, - Till Now! - For the FIRST TIME in History, Recited the way that it was meant to be! -- MISUNDERSTOOD, and Recited Badly (robotically) every year, and that, " The Foe : ", in the second verse is War, and War Period, and that it's a "Torch", and not a Sword. -When the poem is recited with the true emotion behind it, the true meaning comes Alive! Because of the preconceived pretence associated with it, this misunderstanding from it's inception, till this very day, where it is recited sanctimoniously, and with silly sentimentality, as with, "Larks bravely singing", has anything to do with soldiers being brave. It's more like, Look! the bird's are still alive, and we are dead. Like the Scripture, "Look at the bird's of the air....,are you not more valuable than they..." The same with, "..the crosses, row on row, that mark our place ; ..." , with sacrifice. Boy's sold on, "Adventure", or bullied into going. Read Canada's foremost Historian, PIERRE BERTON'S ; Marching As To War -( Book 2, The War To End All War's Ch. 4.) Or with ,"..take up Our quarrel.." Well, Quarrel means to, argue, a disscussion, negotiate, arrive at a settlement ; to speak.. He did not use the word , - Fight, which if he did, would not change the rhyme of the poem. Then the word, "Foe". Well, in poetry, words go to a deeper meaning, understanding, AND, - " the Foe : " , has a mysterious COLON after it, A full Stop(and think). Which introduces a, " Torch ; ... " , and not a Gun, or Sword, And a Torch gives Light to see.-In the hand written facsimiles of the autographed copies, " Torch : ..." , has a capital "T" , and it also has the COLON (not a semicolon), afixed to it. As does, " ...mark our place : .." Three places to pause and think, hard and deep, introducing the next line, and noun. This poem goes deep : indeed, a diamond, and bright! Then we are told, " to hold it high ! ", with an exclaimation mark, " ! " . So everyone can see. - I testify, that all I am trying to do is keep this, " faith " (The next line), and not wishing to offend anyone. Truth be told, and hold your horses. - Grasp the reality, the Disdain, and the Scorn the poem has for the Place, which McCrae speak's through the third person; the Dead Soldiers (capital "D"), the unhappy Dead. McCrae is speaking for All the Dead, All of them. "This poem", Edward Morrison,John's commanding officer say's, "Was literally born of fire and blood during the hottest phase of the second battle of Ypres." ("EPPS") . McCrae called it, " 17 day's of hades! " Written in a rare mood of bitter indignation, anguish, sorrow, and concern for so much lose of life, (happening and to come).--Poet, Doctor John McCrae (1872-1918) wrote his famous poem while sitting on the step of an ambulance, after the burial of his friend, Al Helmer, who was blown to bit's. Then was asked what he had written and said, " I don't know..." -- After being Published in PUNCH Magazine on Dec. 8, 1915 in England, McCrae was astonished at the way it was used. - The horror of the war taking it's toll on his health, and seeming to age rapidly, died of exhaustion and pneumonia at the begining of 1918, on Jan. 28th. Basically 2 year's after being Published. --(Recoreded November 2nd) --For ANY DAY! (c)2008 scottmckee/solitaire records C A N A D A..----Dedicated to The MOST HIGH, and The ALMIGHTY. The Mighty One of Jacob. ----------------------Also, Please CHECK OUT my SONG VERSION. BOB DYLAN said, " A Poem Is A Naked Person ." So I put some clothes on JOHN'S Poem. - ( The original Song Version . Released on the 90th ANNIVERSARY of the POEM'S WRITING , May 3rd, 2005.) Also Dedicated to JOHN McCRAE ( 1872 - 1918 ) - Long Live The Queen. - Thank You. PEACE. PEACE BE WITH YOU.------------------------------------"Peace,Peace,Peace,Peace,Peace,Peace, Peace."--John Lennon.-------------------------------------------------"Please Remember Peace, it's How We Make It"--Ringo Starr. (You know) It Don't Come Easy. -----------------------------" German lads loath this place(crosses on their rows of graves too).... What waited ahead disturbed everyone"------------------IN Flanders fields the poppies blow/Between the crosses, row on row, / That mark our place : and in the sky the larks still bravely singing, fly / scarce heard amid the guns below./ We are the Dead . Short days ago we lived , felt dawn , saw sunset glow, / Loved and were loved , and now we lie In Flanders fields./Take up our quarrel with the foe: / To you from failing hands we throw / the Torch : be yours to hold it high ! / If ye break faith with us who die / We shall not sleep , though poppies grow In Flanders fields.

@KayyKayy9513 That's right, he is buried at the coastal town of Wimereux (wimer-ooh) France, at a hillside cemetary overlooking the English Channel, where on a clear day you can see Englands white cliffs of Dover. He was at Ypres, ( "eeps")Belgium, where he wrote his famous poem. Then was at Boulogue France on the coast, at NO. 3 Canadian Hospital, where later he fell ill, and was taken to NO.14 at Wimereux where he died of pnemonia. Jan. 28, 1918 ~ scott
