  • he always says Usted is used by the rest the world... but my Chilean teacher is teaching me to use "Vosotros"... Why?

I live in Brazil but know English and not want to learn Spanish...

    Tnx u all.

  • Because VOSOTROS is used mostly in Spain. There may be a couple of more countries that in some regions use it, but it is not nearly as widespread or important as the USTEDES form. And even in those few countries that use VOSOTROS, the USTEDES form is also used.

  • jajjjajja MUCHO HAMBRE!!!

nooo como dicen los demas se dice

    Hello. I'm from Chile.

In chile we always use USTEDES in conversations. But in chile we teach the formal and protocolar style: Spanish from Spain. It's just to make it more formal, but in practice all spanish language countries (except Spain) we use USTEDES.

  • The "vos" form was not invented by Argentinians, in spanish language is used like a very formal form to speak with somebody. It used to be used with kings and very important people, but they didn´t say " vos sos", but "vos sois", So it´s not used today, but exist in ancient books. Argentinians use it like an informal form, and they changed it a bit. In english "vos sois" is "thou art". You must know it

  • It's my understanding that the vosotros form is understood in all Spanish-speaking countries, just as we English speakers understand archaic terms. (Do you understandeth me?)

  • @ieBrazil Just becuae your instructor is Chilean does not negate the fact that he/she is teaching a peninsular Spanish class - meaning Spain Spanish and NOT Latin American Spanish. Ud is used in the rest of the world sin duda.

  • la palabra ustedes..no solo se usa en mexico..se usa en toda latinoamerica...

  • @aggitann Ser=to be,Tener=to have.

  • Cause in the only one country wich use "vosotros" is in Spain. Spanish use "ustedes" like the formal expresion of vosotros. In the rest of the countries is ustedes as formal or informal. Otherwise Vosotros is more correct.

Why are you learning spanish if you don´t like? Spainish is the second important language in the world.

  • So how does one know when to use ser or tener? Is there a steadfast rule for their usages?

  • Interesante su trabajo profesor, felicitaciones
