Dorothea Lang saw her subjects more through the eyes of her heart than the eye of the camera. When her work was brought to light years later, she was criticized for creating posed pictures, that her job from the Farm Security Commission was to provide a detached , objective and albeit clinical report to her superiors through the photographs.
But like any feeling human being how could she remain detached ? She did get the subjects to pose, but like any artist, it was to communicate a message.

Her images often conveyed the helpless, the hopeless and the dispossessed. But what they also showed was real people with real lives. Adore her work. Great Post.
