In the spring of the year, the wolves have a lot of stimulus. New scents in the snowmelt and old bones being rediscovered after the winter layers of snow are gone. The snowmelt collects in the pond and continues to freeze, offering the wolves an opportunity for investigation. A common predatory behavior is the stiff legged jump, when a wolf jumps on the front legs to either chase small rodents from the grass or in the case of this video, make some noise on the ice. Spring can also mean wet snowstorms, and the wolves are stimulated to jump at branches, and roll in the fresh snow.
