Now, another Chris Lee appearance, this time rather a cameo, in The Golden Compass, based on Philip Pullman's novel.
The Emissary is played by Derek Jacobi, an acconplished stage actor who became famous in the Seventies with the TV series I Claudius. A few years ago he played Middle Ages' monk detective Cadfael on the telly.
Second Special Guest in a silent part is Edward de Souza. He, like Lee once, left his mark with Hammer Horror movies, playing the hero in The Phantom of the Opera and Kiss of the Vampire, both in 1962.
My dad went to school with Edward De Souza, a Catholic boarding school run by Dominican monks. De Souza was also once my dad's sister's boyfriend. He is Anglo Indian (half Indian, half English) which accounts for his dark complexion.
Oddly enough, he also appeared in an episode of "The Sweeney" called "Hearts and Minds" which coincidentally guest starred Morecambe & Wise! De Souza also introduced horror stories on BBC Radio 4 as "The Man In Black" for the "Fear on Four" strand.
