As a teenager, I bought an ex-gymkhana champion who refused to step foot into the show ring anymore. So they retired him and neglected him.

When I discovered him, he was a mess -- angry, starving, with diseased feet, lice, and a rough coat.

I took him to the wilderness, fed him well, and just let him run along the trails. He became very happy and gentle after regaining his peaceful wildness. He filled out and his coat grew silky and shiny. He pranced. He stopped biting and kissed people instead.
