These cyclists are riding too far right for their own safety. By riding in the shadow of opening car doors they are taking the chance of being hit by suddenly opening doors, or worse yet, suddenly swerving to avoid same and being hit by an overtaking vehicle.
KRS 189.300 (2) states that "The operator of any vehicle moving slowly upon a highway shall keep his vehicle as closely as practicable to the right-hand boundary of the highway, allowing more swiftly moving vehicles reasonably free passage to the left."
It is not practicable to ride in the door zone. The safer behavior on Bardstown Road is to "take the lane".
i was riding up a hill on the road today on my bike ,didnt want to slow up traffic so stayed to the left (British). A lady opened her car door without checking and I smashed straight into it, then rolled into the road infront of another car which just stopped in time, I wear a bright orange jacket. With increasing numbers of cyclists there is not enough cyclist awareness if you ask me.
