Comparing a 66 to the elegance and sheer presence of a Western - Sir Misha Black would turn in his grave!!!

Bellwestern80 isn't too far from the truth actually! As is well known, the 66 is based on the 59 originally operated by Foster Yeoman. F.Y had a soft spot for class 52s (they originally preserved D1010 and restored it as D1035) and attempted to influence the design of the 59 to resemble that of an 'updated' Western! Still, the Wessy beats the Shed hands down in terms of cosmetic appearance!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

You're quite right amosbriz, there's no way that a Western resembles a 66, appearance and sound; Sir Misha Black would've been very disapproving indeed...

Thanks airscrew1!

Lovely I love diesel hydraulics. But look at all that smoke. Wait until Nu Labour ban old engines including steam.
as you can see from my site iam a fan of the hydraulics .the thought of gms being modelled on the class 52 . is ime afraid true. .although i must admit there is no comparison . the 1000 is & always will be the finest sounding loco ever to haul a train on british rail ,

Ive never been much of a fan of Westerns, but having a mainline loco on a preserved railway is truly good, its like bashing a railtour for cheap! 5* Dave.

Thanks Wooly. As you will see here, the rain failed to prevent me from filming my first encounter with D1015 which I saw again almost twelve months ago at Chester, while she was en route to Holyhead with The Irish Mail.
