Midland police are investigating the murder of former Permian High School standout and Sul Ross State University football player.
Police say 23-year-old Jermaine Swearington was shot at about 4:00 AM outside of the Pleasures Club at 210 South Lee Street.
Police say Swearington, who had been shot several times in the chest and legs, died at 11:30 this morning.
Officers say they collected more than 30 shell casings from the scene of the shooting.
Swearington was a star running back at Permian, and was in his first year at Sul Ross.
He was named All-Conference by the American Southwest Conference as a freshman.
He was 23-years-old.
Midland police have arrested 2 of 4 of the suspects in the shooting: 18-year-old Melvin Lenard, and 18-year-old Jesse Johnson.
Both have been charged with murder and no bond has been set.
Arrest warrants have been issued for two others: Timothy Braziel and Miguel Chatman.
