From KETC, LIVING ST. LOUIS Producer Ruth Ezell shares the modern-day love story of a former World War II soldier and his wife. She recently spoke with Metro East resident Lavern Parker about the important role his family and his devotion to God and country played in getting him through the war. Parker says that his desire to return home to care for his wife and children got him through each day in the trenches. However, international war is not the only battle the Parkers have waged together: Lavern's love of family has motivated him to follow his ailing wife into a nursing home despite his perfect health. "The Parker's experience is a true love story," says Ezell. "Lavern's desire to be with his wife not only carried him through the war but it endures today as he helps her wage her own battles against Alzheimer's."
