Most seem to think that it is understood that he IS crying, at one point.

It's hard to see in the scans, but it looks like he is if you have it in front of you.

Once again, it is up to interpretation, and kept vague - most likely on purpose.

It will most likely ALWAYS be left up to imagination and fanfiction. I personally hold the belief/hope that RT meant the Kimonos as courting gifts, as that WOULD BE traditional... but there is no way to know that for sure.

If nothing else, I believe he will always be in her life in SOME capacity that isn't 'fatherly' - perhaps as a friend, but I like to think it would be more. He is a lord and could have MANY wives and concubines. Even if they didn't marry, they could be together honorably.

He has a DARK line down his face in one far away shot and there is a close up where you can see what look like small tear drops near his cheek stripe, and under his eye, and near his lip (although that could be his frown too - but it looks like a tear.)

Most people I have spoken to have seemed to agree that he is supposed to be crying.

IT IS HARD TO SEE though, in the scans.

His mother says 'are you sad' and she says 'sadness and FEAR' is what he has to feel - not anger - he isn't 'angry'.

He says 'These people all have the same scent as Rin' - onemanga translated it to 'These people are the same as Rin'. Either way, he's saying that he understands that a girl he's come to care for is the same as other humans in some way, and I took it to mean that his compassion had grown to include more than just Rin - and he hates humans just a LITTLE less now, because Rin taught him that they have value. That is ONLY my interpretation of it though.
