  • Jowin, I got to agree with you on the "dumbing down" of Toonami. I remember back in 2000-2001 when that was the peak of me watching it, I used to watch Zoids(and btw Zoids came around then, and was ended several years before the time of effed up Tom), Dragonball Z, and the good stuff. I was a huge fan of Zoids(and its my Favorite) and Im still PO'd that Toonami was brought down like it was. I also agree with you that even though I have to watch anime online, I would rather watch it on TV anyday.

  • @3mustardMoNkEyS Yes, yes and YES!

  • It's sort of funny how the rise and fall of Toonami sort of parallels Hip-Hop....Started off dope; peaked...tried to remake itself and then went downhill....now we have to resort to the internet to get that good ol' fashioned stuff, lol.....now that I think of it...maybe the problem isn't Hip-Hop or Toonami...maybe everything is just prone to corruption, lol...anyway, nice post!

  • @TaajAlon Interesting dude. Very interesting

  • Tom turned into Thomas the Tank Engine.

  • @SeraphSonata9 LMAO!!!!

  • I remember watching Rurouni Kenshin and Yu-Yu Hakusho in the afternoon as well as Dragon Ball Z, and then later I would stay up and see Trigun and Cowboy Bebop... This is just a tragedy what happened to Toonami... I miss those good ol' days... You know what I mean?

  • Seriously, I didn't even know that Toonami introduced me to anime during those days. I just considered them Cartoons...with not just mindless violence but very meaningful stories. Outlaw Star, Tenchi Muyo, Yu-Yu Hackasho, Big-O and Cowboy Bebop and FLCL late at night driving my young mind WILD with imagination. And who could forget those inspirational lectures Tom gave with great editing of all the shows we loved going along with it? The drum and bass was unforgetful as well. R.I.P childhood.

  • It's funny how parents would complain that Toonami was too violent but I remember other classic cartoons, all given the title Looney Tunes, that had just as much or more violence in them. My all time favorite, Bugs Bunny, would dress up in women's clothes (transvestism), would on many occasions give sexual advances to Elmer Fudd (beastiality), and, rarely when the censors were lazy, would cuss when he was frustrated.

Bottom line: People's view of what's appropriate is really funny.

  • "tom looks like an f n rumble robot toy' lol

  • Toonami had a culture about it that really stuck with me. Praise for the video man.

  • Nickelodeon, Toonami, Disney, (Old) Adult Swim......

I had a time schedule for these and I was so happy!

    R.I.P. Childhood memories!

  • One Piece only appeals to the younger crowd if you're watching the HORRIBLE 4kids version which butchered the show so much that you couldn't even call it One Piece anymore or the censored version Toonami got. If you watch the REAL Once Piece it's definitely for the same age group shows like the DB series, YYH and RK were getting at. 4kids ruined One Piece in America. Shame since One Piece is the new Dragon Ball in Japan. Bleach would have been an awesome show for the old Toonami.
