Millions of people practice Yoga. Yoga is now the fastest growing sport in America according to Yoga Journal magazine. They say that over 10 million people practice Yoga.

Sport? Yoga is a sport? No. Yoga is no mere sport. Yoga means "union." It is the joy of union of the individual self with the Self of All. It is pure consciousness, Purusha, which is complete unto itself. It is the union of Atman, the Self, and Brahman, the Absolute Reality. It is the union of Shakti, the feminine essence with Shiva, the masculine essence.

Yoga deals with relationships, senses, body, breath, mind and the union beyond. Yoga is complete. It is whole. It is integration. It is the highest bliss. Yoga is like the wave knowing it is not separate from the ocean. Yoga is divine union. It is not mere sport. Yoga is the path. Yoga is the goal.

  • Is yoga Interdisciplinary and / or one with all disciplines?

  • Yoga is yoga. What are you talking about asking if yoga is "interdisciplinary" or "one with all disciplines"? That makes no sense at all. See swamijdotcom/traditional-yogadothtm

  • You didn't address the fact that Yoga is not integrated with any other mind/body exercise. I'm working with the concept of an interdisciplinary intelligence vs. specialized. Because your perspective is specialized, yoga becomes dogmatic with knowledge that's relatively pointless and meanings, similar to religion.

  • It is irrelevant that it is "not integrated with any other mind/body exercise" for the simple reason that Yoga is NOT a physical exercise program. This is not dogmatism. It is simply a fact of the true nature of Yoga. Anyone can explore the true nature of Yoga if he or she desires. The distortion is so complete these days that one who speaks the truth of the matter is called dogmatic. Black is black and white is white. That is not dogmatism. Please explore the true nature of Yoga.

  • Go to Wikipedia and look up Yoga. It has a reasonable description of Yoga. It starts with the explanation that "Yoga is an Indian spiritual path aimed at achieving the union with the Supreme Consciousness."

  • Currently, Yoga is not interdisciplinary. It's relationship is not in union with any other mind / body exercise. To know this interdisciplinary union of all disciplines, you will realize how Yoga is a part of the whole. When it comes to the true interrelationship between Tennis and Yoga, Yoga is a stretching exercise and Tennis is an ambidextrous non-competitive relationship. Go figure.

  • The suggestion that "Yoga is a stretching exercise" is common, but is absolutely incorrect. The modern belief that Yoga is "a stretching exercise" is a major distortion of the true nature of Yoga. Anyone who is willing to explore traditional Yoga, classical Yoga, authentic Yoga, or the history of Yoga will find this is so.

  • Yep your completely right yoga is not a sport, I wish people would understand

  • If a disciple claims it provides the means for an enlightenment, it needs to have a teacher, who it refers to as the incarnation of that knowledge, relative to that meaning or end-in-itself. My question is, who is the enlightened and incarnated teacher of Yoga, and is there anyone who is currently living who you would refer to as a qualified student / teacher? Also, the enlightenment needs to be understood, in relation to the not enlightenment. Example: the mind / body integration vs. the gap.

  • OM TAT SAT

  • Well said. Many believe Hatha Yoga classes in America are exercise classes. It demonstrates how uniformed many individuals are. When one is willing to "Wake Up" the True Nature of Yoga will be made known through a sincere teacher. Until this happens many will continue to swim in the sea of ignorance.

  • Let the Truth be understood.
