I'm aware that many people struggle to beat the twins at the end of Round 5 and Round 8 of Streets of Rage (aka. Bare Knuckle in Japan). I haven't found a satisfactory text guide as to beating these twins, so I thought I'd make a visual guide to show several methods to defeat Mona and Lisa.
After fighting the twins a few times, you may notice that each of the two girls takes a different role. One is constantly trying to fly-kick you (let's call her "Girl A"), while the other flips around trying to sacrifice-throw or backdrop you between her twin's attacks (let's call her "Girl B"). The twins are often labelled as being "annoying" or "difficult" because they work as a team, unlike the other bosses. DO NOT waste time performing a combo by punching one of the twins. If you do this, the other twin will attempt to hit you just as you finish your combo, so that you have no time to move away. After you grab one of the girls, throw or backdrop her immediately and move away to dodge the other twin's attack.
Watch the twins' movements and carefully time your attacks. Sometimes, if you try to sacrifice-throw Girl B just after grabbing her, Girl A will land where you are just after she finishes her flying kick (but you are invulnerable at that time). However, Girl A will then hit you just as she somersaults away. You will notice that I vault over Girl B a lot to backdrop her. This is to buy some time to counter Girl A's attempts to somersault-kick me.
Girl A is most easily grabbed after she tries to fly-kick you. You will know that she is preparing a fly-kick you when she speeds up her walking pace. For those who are still trying to get used to beating the twins, I recommend sticking with this method and you will often knock out Girl A first.
You can grab Girl B after she lands from flipping around, but she is more likely to grab you instead. There is only a tiny fraction of time where you can grab her (watch my video for hints). If you approach her too early or too late, she will grab you instead. In case any of the twins try to grab you, make sure you face them, because their sacrifice-throws can be countered by pressing and holding Up+C as you're in the air and you'll land safely instead. Backdrops cannot be countered, so be very careful not to let the twins grab you from behind.
You can also fly-kick Girl A as she is trying to fly-kick you; however, careful timing is required, otherwise you'll miss her or she will kick you instead. The twins can jump higher and only fly-kick diagonally; never horizontally (like us) nor vertically. The twins will position themselves until you are within their attack range before they try to fly-kick you. Our fly-kicks do very little damage, so rather than using it to attack the twins, I use it to "scare off" Girl A before I grab Girl B (who will then always jump in the opposite direction to her twin).
Girl B also has the tendency to follow you from behind, but if you turn around, she'll jump away. So, keep facing away from her, and as she gets within your kicking range, press B+C together to perform the "surprise" back kick and knock her down. However, this is again another risky method. If you didn't press B+C together properly, and you fail to perform the "surprise" back kick, she'll backdrop you. Since this attack does very little damage, I don't bother with it.
Overall, I'd say that Blaze is the best character to beat the twins. Axel's jumping skills suck (although I didn't make Blaze jump a lot in the video, sometimes I jump away from the twin trying to grab me). Adam is with no doubt too slow. Blaze is faster than Axel, but is not significantly weaker. Her ability to keep up with the movements of the twins and easily grab them makes up for it.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
there is an easier way to beat them. just keep doing the back kick move (C+B) when they jump or walk close enough to you. you can literally win with zero damage

@dakotabattle1993 The back kick move does very little damage and if you don't have much time left, you're going to die when the timer hits zero.

EVERYONE: There is no special button combination to grab Girl B. When I said 'timing', I meant walking into her at the right moment. If you walk into her too early or late, she will grab and throw you instead. Remember how you grab other opponents? You don't really have to worry about timing there since you can always grab them as long as you walk into them. However, for these twins, they have been programmed to only let you grab them if you time it correctly.

My God! The amount of lives and continues I used to waste trying to defeat these two when I was a kid. And how many times did I do it? Once did I get past these two. Is it me or were these the two hardest bosses in the first Streets of Rage game? When they appeared in SOR 3, they were heaving dumbed down, don't you think? Well dumbed compared to these two.

@ecco1983 The twins in SOR 3 were an absolute joke. Their fighting ability in SOR 1 was far more challenging.

@Robtopia77 Thanks! Figuring out the strategy to beat them took a lot of practice.
