2008 Ladies Sumo in Fukushima Town, Hokkaido, Japan

On May 11th 2008 there was a ladies sumo tournament in Fukushima Town, Hokkaido, Japan. This is a (poor) copy of the news that evening.

The event was especially interesting this year as 12 non-Japanese girls entered. This is the most that have ever entered the yearly event.

Fukushima town is famous for sumo and has produced two former Yokozuna champions. They were Chiyonyama and Chiyonofuji. Quite impressive for a town of 6,000 people.

Many sumo events are held in the town each year, including this ladies competition.
